Cleaning a New Build Home in Hull: What to Expect
New build homes are handed over 'clean', but a builder's clean and a move-in ready clean are two very different standards. Here's what to expect and check for.
'Builder's clean' isn't the same as move-in ready
Most new build developments around Hull, including estates near Kingswood and out towards Beverley and Hessle, include a builder's clean as standard before handover. This is designed to remove obvious construction debris and dust so the property looks presentable — but it's a lighter standard than most people expect from a home they're about to move into and live in.
Builder's cleans typically focus on visible surfaces and getting rid of the worst of the dust generated during the final fit-out stages. They don't usually involve the kind of deep clean you'd want before unpacking furniture and belongings into every room.
Where construction dust hides
Fine plaster and cement dust settles everywhere during a build, and it has an unhelpful habit of finding its way into places that look clean on the surface. What a proper pre-move-in clean covers
A thorough new build clean goes beyond wiping visible dust and covers the areas listed above along with a full kitchen and bathroom sanitise, glass and mirror polishing, and vacuuming or mopping every floor including inside any built-in storage. It's very similar in scope to an end-of-tenancy clean, just working from a construction-dust starting point rather than a previous occupant's mess.
Doing this before you start moving in furniture also means you're not cleaning around boxes and belongings, which makes a real difference to how thorough the job can be — corners and skirting boards especially are much easier to reach in an empty room.
Timing it around your move
If possible, book the clean for after final handover keys are received but before the moving van arrives — even a single day's gap is enough to get a proper deep clean done in an empty property.
